Have You Ever Used a Neti Pot?

Tuesday March 31, 2009

Neti pots have been featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show and many people all over the internet are singing their praises. Basically a neti pot is a form of nasal irrigation that is supposed to greatly improve sinus allergy symptoms. You take a small tea pot looking device filled with salt water and insert it into one of your nostrils. The salt water goes through your sinuses and out the other nostril. You can see a video of someone demonstrating the neti pot. A very small study at the University of Wisconsin demonstrated some self reported benefits for asthmatics using nasal irrigation.

Neti pots are messy and hard to use and for me not very effective. I use to feel rediculous using it as the water drained down my arm. I now use the SinuPulse a pulsating irrigator that is much better at cleaning everything out. Its a little pricy at nearly 100.00 but reimburseable and worth every penny. Since using it I have not had an infection and my sinus headaches are gone and my allergies are under control all WITHOUT drugs.

Used one for the first time last night. Unbelievable releif. It does take some getting used to (watch your head angle over the sink!)the first time and for me, stung quite a bit but it stopped the suffering right away and I slept last night in peace. Wish I knew about it years ago.
