Does Asthma affect your sex life?

In the Reducing Emergency Asthma Care In Harlem Project, researchers examined the impact asthma has on sex life. Of 356 asthmatics presenting to the ER for asthma care:

  • 80% of asthmatics participated in sexual activity in the 2 weeks prior to their emergency room visit
  • 60% reported some limitations in their sex life
  • Sex was the 15th most common asthma limitation reported
  • Sexual impairment was the 3rd most important limitation reported by the patients after ability to climb stairs and ability to do housework.

I’ve had asthma since I was 4 years old and I am now a few months shy of 24 so it has been close to 20 years. Sex is something I have enjoyed for a long time but I have never noticed it have an affect on my life. However there are times when after sex I am out of breath barely able to breath and I am wheezing like mad. I really hope that sex doesn’t have an affect on my life or I am in for a world of hurt.
