Last summer there was some discussion of controversies surrounding swimming pools and asthma. A study published in the journal Pediatrics concluded "chlorinated pool exposure seems to contribute significantly to the burden of asthma and respiratory allergies among adolescents." In the last poll many of you said that swimming improves your asthma.
The research claims that chlorine may increase risk of and exacerbate asthma. I wondered what sort of pools our readers are using and if many of you avoid chlorinated pools. Does chlorination worsen or exacerbate your asthma? What do you think? Take the poll and leave a comment.

two years ago I swam in a pool that I later found out to have 2.5ppm combined chlorine with in the UK has a maximum recommended 1ppm level, two days later I was unable to breathe and I had developed what was diagnosed as severe asthma from that one event. I still swim in a low chlorine pool and providing the waters cold I’m fine and can be beneficial for me.
