Are You Sure Your Child's Asthma Is Under Control?

Thursday March 29, 2007
More than 6 million US children have been diagnosed with asthma. Many more may have it, but have not yet been diagnosed, and these numbers are growing each year. There are many effective treatments for asthma available today. But the fact remains that many children who have asthma are not under control—and that leads to missed days at school, lost sleep, and interference in play and sports activities.

The problem seems to be tied to the fact that both parents and doctors often tend to overestimate the degree of asthma control that has been reached. And that leads to undertreatment of the asthma. Not a great combination.

So what can be done?

One place you can start is to take the Asthma Control Test to see how well-controlled your child's asthma really is. Don't worry—it's not the kind of test you'll be graded on—it's just a simple questionnaire you can complete in minutes. Doesn't your child deserve to have asthma control so that he or she can live as healthy as possible?
