Parts of a Metered Dose Inhaler

A.D.A.M.
Definition: A metered dose inhaler is a metal and plastic device that people who have asthma can use to get a specific amount of asthma medicine (in other words, a metered dose into their airways. It is the most common device used for both quick-relief and long-term preventive inhaled asthma medicines.

It has two parts: a metal canister that contains the asthma medicine, and a plastic tube that the canister fits into and that helps dispense the medicine into your mouth and airways. When you push on the top of the canister, it releases a metered dose of medicine into the plastic tube and you breathe it in from there.
