Question: How Do I Chart Peak Flow Readings?

Answer: Using your peak flow meter as your doctor prescribes is an important part of your asthma management plan. Charting your peak flow readings is part of this task. Write the highest of the 3 readings you get in your asthma diary or peak flow diary. Since measuring peak flow is about noticing patterns and changes more than individual readings, it is helpful to record your peak flow on a chart – either a simple table like the one shown on our asthma diary page or even a line graph as pictured at the right.

Be sure to discuss your peak flow readings with your doctor.
