How to Use an MDI With a Mask

Get Your Child to Breathe In for the First Puff

Once the mask is in place, ask your child to start to breathe in slowly. (Breathe with him or her to show what you mean.) At the same time, press down firmly on the top of the canister to release one "puff" of medicine.

Continue to hold the mask over your child's face for 3 to 5 seconds as he or she breathes in slowly and deeply.
