Give Your Child a Drink of Water Afterwards

Once your child has finished taking the number of puffs prescribed by your pediatrician or pulmonologist, have him or her rinse the mouth by taking a drink of water or juice. Sometimes — even if you are careful to use the right technique — some of the inhaled medicine may remain in the mouth, instead of being inhaled into the airways.

Rinsing the mouth after inhaling will get rid of any unwanted medicine that may remain there. That will help avoid any unpleasant side effects, such as a bitter taste, etc. It's also helpful to have your child brush his or her teeth afterward, since it can help prevent voice hoarseness and prevent fungal colonization.
