The force of breathing out through the meter will move the sliding marker along the scale. Write down each of the readings that you get as you use the meter. Then, in your peak flow diary, record the highest of the three numbers.

Be sure to measure your peak flow at about the same time each day. Talk with your doctor about when the best time is to do it. Some people measure their peak flow twice a day, once when they first get up in the morning, and again in the evening. Others measure before and after they take their asthma medicine. You and your doctor can decide what is right for you.
