Question: What is Asthma?
Answer: Asthma is a chronic disease that affects the airways of your lungs. The airways become swollen, inflamed, and narrow making it more difficult to move air in and out. When the airways become narrow you may experience wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and difficulty breathing.

A number of different things may cause your airways to react in this manner. Generally, something irritates the lungs to begin this process. Some people are allergic to certain things like pollens, molds, or grasses while others may react to cold air or exercise. Your healthcare provider can help figure out what is irritating your lungs and get you on an appropriate treatment plan.
