You want to make sure your child is safe. This means you need to find out what your child's teacher knows about asthma and politely tell them what you think is important. How do you initiate this conversation and what do you say? Can you describe when these conversations have gone well? What have you done when your teacher was not as responsive as you would have liked?

My Child's School Asthma

I learned the hard way, assuming that my child was in good hands because of the required yearly asthma education. After my child had an asthma attack and the teacher froze, I now provide all of my child's teachers with an asthma action plan along with all the signs of asthma worsening in my child. I have found frank and upfront conversations to be helpful and even appreciated by the teacher.
