Using your quick-relief asthma inhaler is a sign of poor control of your asthma. Are there things that help you prevent overuse of your asthma inhaler? What strategies do you use to keep your rescue medication to a minimum? Do you place extra effort in identifying triggers? Call your doctor early to alter your controller medication? Make sure your inhaler technique is appropriate?

inhaler avoidance

if I control my enviroment I dont have to use my inhaler. so it keeps me from overuising my inhaler. if I have to use my inhaler more than one day I go to nebulizer.

Seven things that work for me...

1) Unless I'm required to for something, I never miss a dose of my controller. 2) I start my yellow zone plan the moment I think I'm coming down with a cold. 3) I take allergy medication daily. 4) I avoid my triggers as much as possible since they don't make an allergy medication strong enough to eliminate my environmental allergy symptoms. 5) I always use a spacer. 6) I see my doctor if I haven't started to improve in three days. 7) I see my doctor for 'well' checkups as well as when I'm sick.

Overusing My Inhaler

I mainly try to avoid triggers. I am also religious about following my peak flows so that I can tell early when my asthma is getting worse and go up on the dose of my inhaled steroid.
