The family of a girl who died of an asthma attack is suing the New York City Police Department for 17 million dollars for an officer not attempting to preform CPR on their child who was having a severe asthma attack. According to a news report, the family claims the police officer failed to provide or even attempt CPR for their daughter while in need. The family argues that the failure of the officer contributed to their daughter's death.

The girl's mother claims the officer said that he did not know CPR, despite all officers receiving CPR training in the police academy. A local politician is attempting to require officers have yearly CPR training and commented that all officers are required to have yearly firearm training. The officer was suspended for 30 days following the incident for failing to take action.
