Definition: When asthma is not treated or controlled well, a serious condition called airway remodeling can occur. This happens when your airways start to "see" an asthma attack as the normal state and they adapt to it in a negative way.

Once airway remodeling takes place, the airways are less likely to respond well to asthma medicine and asthma becomes harder to control.

Pronunciation: AYR-way ree-MAH-del-ing

Examples: If you fail to get treatment for chronic asthma attacks, your lungs will undergo airway remodeling and your symptoms will worsen.
