Now that you have familiarized yourself with the different parts of your child's metered dose inhaler, it's time to get ready to use it.
  1. Wash your hands — this helps to avoid infection.

  2. If your child's inhaler parts are not already together, assemble them now.

  3. Remove the end cap from the mouthpiece.

  4. Shake the inhaler well. This mixes the medicine with the propellants, both of which are in the canister. The propellants help the medicine "shoot" out of the inhaler when you press on the canister.

  5. Place the mask snugly over your child's mouth and nose. Be sure to get a good seal, with no gaps.
