Definition: You may hear the term adjunctive therapy or treatment when your doctor is discussing increasing your asthma medications. You also might have read about the term in articles discussing what to do when asthma is not well controlled.

Basically, adjunctive therapy refers to any additional therapy that is added to your asthma regimen when you cannot increase the dose of your current medication.

For example, LABAs are generally the first adjunctive treatment when your asthma remains poorly controlled despite already taking an inhaled steroid.
